Stromeyerite Composition, Crystallization and Structure


A sulfide of silver and copper (Ag,Cu)2S or Ag2S. Cu2S. Orthorhombic. Commonly massive. H. = 2.5-3. G. = 6.15- 6.3. Metallic luster. Color and streak grayish black. Fusible at 1.5. In O.T. gives odor of sulfur dioxide. Roasted mineral with hydrochloric acid gives azure-blue flame. Nitric acid solution with hydrochloric acid gives precipitate of silver chloride. A rare silver mineral found with other silver and copper ores.
