Open Circuit Grinding
Open circuit grinding best utilized where any of the following conditions exist.
- There is another stage of grinding that follows.
- The reduction ratio is small.
- The material is being rod milled to a coarse grind such as in making sand.
- The material is already fine. One more pass through the mill is sufficient such as in a regrind mill.
- The size gradient is not critical. Some undersize and oversize can be tolerated.
- The material is ground in a batch operation.
- The ore is damp or contains clay. Fine crushing is difficult because the crushing surfaces become jammed with material, so a rod mill is used.
