Open Circuit Grinding

Open Circuit Grinding

Open circuit grinding best utilized where any of the following conditions exist.

  • There is another stage of grinding that follows.
  • The reduction ratio is small.
  • The material is being rod milled to a coarse grind such as in making sand.
  • The material is already fine. One more pass through the mill is sufficient such as in a regrind mill.
  • The size gradient is not critical. Some undersize and oversize can be tolerated.
  • The material is ground in a batch operation.
  • The ore is damp or contains clay. Fine crushing is difficult because the crushing surfaces become jammed with material, so a rod mill is used.
