The photographs on the following pages refer to a series of tests which reveal the variations in the movement of the charge with respect to changes in lining profile and mill speed. The charge is composed of a number of balls in three different sizes. The charge level and the proportions of different sized ball are the same in each example. The large balls are white, the medium-sized ones are yellow and the small ones are red.
Seven types of lining profiles are used. Each one is tested at mill speeds corresponding to 65.75 and 85% of critical speed.
The photographs illuminate several aspects of the behaviour of the charge, including:
- Size distribution of grinding bodies.
- Charge pressure and impact. The ratio of lift height to drop height Energy consumption.
- The final determination of the profile design for a mill lining must take account of all working parameters and product specifications.
- Variations in profile design can affect the output of grinding operations in various ways, depending on the type of grinding (primary, fine, etc.), capacity, screen analysis, energy con-sumption and economy en terms of liner and charge bodies.
